Unified Sports Training Restructure
What is Unified Sports?
Special Olympics Unified Sports® is an inclusive sports program that combines an approximately equal number of Special Olympics athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) and partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities) on teams for training and competition. Three models exist within Unified Sports: competitive Unified Sports, Unified Sports Player Development and Unified Sports Recreation. All three models provide different types of experiences in team sports such as basketball, football and volleyball and in other sports such as bocce, golf and tennis. Unified Sports is now offered throughout the world and has been a Special Olympics internationally sanctioned program since 1989.
Our Role
Our primary objective was to restructure and enhance the Unified Sports Training given to new volunteers. We were able to do this by completing the following:

As a team, we interviewed key stakeholders to gain their opinions on the current training given to new volunteers.
We restructured and enhanced the PowerPoint used during the presentation.
We developed an interactive quiz for new volunteers to take part in during the presentation.
We developed a feedback form for new volunteers to complete at the end of the training so that they may give their feedback.
Developed a list of additional recommendations regarding the Unified Sports Training.
